Introduction

Alcohol use can present significant risks for young people, particularly during adolescence when the brain is still developing. While alcohol is often viewed as a normal part of social life, early or excessive drinking can affect mental health, decision-making, emotional regulation and overall wellbeing. For some young people, experimentation with alcohol may be influenced by peer pressure, stress, curiosity or the desire to fit in. How adults respond is important. By approaching conversations about alcohol with openness, empathy and accurate information, we can help them build awareness and develop healthy coping strategies.
